No. 31-General Use

Our loved one!  O where art thou now?
 O whisper to our souls!
And let some soothing thought of thee
 This bitter grief control!
Thy peace is sealed, thy rest is sure,
 Our sorrows are to come;
Awhile we wait and linger here,
 Then follow to the tomb.

No. 32-General Use

'Tis not for thee the tears I shed,
 Thy sufferings now are o'er;
The sea is calm, the tempest past
 On that eternal shore.
Farewell!  With honor, peace and love,
 Be thy dear memory blest!
And bide the time, nor be it long,
 When I too am at rest.

No. 33-General Use

Life!  We've been long together,
 Through pleasant and through cloudy weather;
'Tis hard to part when friends are dear;
 Perhaps 't will cost a sigh, a tear.
Then steal away, give little warning;
 Choose thine own time,
Say not "Good Night;" but in a brighter clime,
 Bid me "Good Morning."

No. 34-General Use

Oft' when the silent evening sighs
 With hallowed airs and symphonies,
My spirit takes a mournful tone
 And sighs that it is all alone,
Oft' in my dreams a form I view,
 That waits for me and loves me too;
I wake and find the vision flown,
 I weep that I am all alone.

No. 35-Husband or Wife

O love, dear love!
 It is not home without thee; the lone seat
Is still unclaimed where thou wert wont to be;
 In every echo of returning feet,
In vain we list for what should herald thee,
 My love, my love

No. 36-General Use

If souls could always dwell above,
 Thou ne'er hadst left that sphere;
Or, could we keep the souls we love,
 We ne'er had lost thee here.
Though many a gifted mind we meet,
 Though fairest forms we see,
To live with them is far less sweet
 Than to remember thee.

No. 37-General Use

 One less at home!
The charmed circle broken, a dear face,
Missed day by day from its usual place,
But cleaned, saved and perfected by grace,
 One more in Heaven.
 One less on earth!
Its pain, its sorrow, its toil to share,
One less the pilgrim's cross to bear,
One more the crown of the blest to wear,
 At home in Heaven.

No. 38-General Use

There is no flock, however watched and tended,
 But one dead lamb is there;
There is no fireside, howsoe'er defended,
 But has one vacant chair.
We will be patient, and assuage the feeling
 We may not wholly stay;
By silence sanctifying, not concealing,
 The grief that must have way.

No. 39-General Use

How mournful seems, in broken dreams,
 The memory of the day,
When icy death hath sealed the breath
 Of some dear form of clay.
Oh, what could heal the grief we feel
 For hopes that come no more,
Had we ne'er heard th' assuring word,
 "Not lost, but gone before."

No. 40-General Use

The world recedes, it disappears;
Heaven opens on my eyes! my ears!
 And beings seraphic sing.
Lend, lend your wings; I mount, I fly;
O grave, where is thy victory?
 O death, where is thy sting?

No. 41-General Use

Beyond the narrow vale of time,
 Where bright celestial ages roll,
To scenes eternal, scenes sublime,
 Religion bears the trusting soul.
Baptized with her renewing fire,
 May we the crown of glory gain;
May we to heavenly bliss aspire,
 And reign with Christ, forever reign.

No. 42-General Use

Our glories from our earliest breath
 Are shadows, not substantial things;
There is no armor against death,
 He lays his icy hand on kings.
      To the silent tomb
      We all must come,
And only the actions of the just
Smell sweet and blossom in the dust.

No. 43-General Use

Like to the grass that's newly sprung,
Or like a tale that's just begun,
Or like the bird that's here to-day,
Or like the pearly dews of May;
E'en such is man, who lives by breath,
Is here, now there, in life, in death,
The bird is flown, the dew's ascended,
The grass is witherd, the tale is ended.

No. 44-General Use

A precious one from us has gone,
 A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
 Which never can be filled.
God, in His wisdom, has recalled,
 The boon His love had given;
And though the casket's in the tomb,
 The soul is safe in Heaven.

No. 45-General Use

Peaceful be thy silent slumber-
 Peaceful in thy grave so low;
Thou no more wilt join our number,
 Thou no more our sorrows know.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
 When our earthly journey's sped,
And in Heaven with joy to greet thee,
 Where no farewell tears are shed.

No. 46-General Use

'Tis hard to break the tender cord,
When love has bound the heart;
'Tis hard, so hard to speak the words:
Must we forever part?
Dearest loved one, we have laid thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace,
But thy memory will be cherished,
Though we miss thy loving face.

No. 47-General Use

Link by link the chain is broken,
One by one earth's ties decay;
And the hopes so fondly cherished
Brighten but to pass away.
One by one our hopes grow brighter,
As we near the shining shore;
For we know across the river
Wait the loved ones gone before.

No. 48-General Use

Asleep in Jesus!  blessed sleep,
From which none ever wake to weep!
A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.
Asleep in Jesus! far from thee,
Thy kindred and their graves may be;
But thine is still a blessed sleep,
From which none ever wake to weep.

No. 49-General Use

Father, while our hearts are bleeding,
O'er the spoils that death has won,
We would, in our sad bereavement,
Calmly say, "Thy will be done."
Tho' cast down, we're not forsaken,
Tho' afflicted, not alone;
Thou didst give and Thou has taken,
Blessed Lord, "Thy will be done."

No. 50-General Use

Thou 'rt safe in Heaven above,
Safe with the Source of Love;
And when the hour arrives
    That sets me free,
Thy spirit may await,
The first at Heaven's gate
    To Meet and welcome me.

No. 51-A First Child

Pure as the snow-flake ere it falls
And takes the stain of earth;
With not a taint of mortal life,
Except thy mortal birth.
God bade thee early taste the spring,
For which so many thirst;
And bliss, eternal bliss is thine,
Our fairest and our first.

No. 52-A Child

When Christ the earth was dwelling on,
    In little babes He took delight;
Such innocents as this dear one
    Were ever precious in His sight.
Sleep then sweet babe, no more we'll weep;
Thou 'rt in His arms; sweet baby sleep.

No. 53-A Child

This lovely bud, so young, so fair,
Called hence by early doom,
Just came to show how sweet a flower
In paradise would bloom.
'Ere sin could harm or sorrow fade,
Death came with friendly care,
The opening bud to Heaven conveyed
And bade it blossom there.

No. 54-A Child

Another little lamb has gone
To dwell with Him who gave;
Another little darling babe
Is sheltered in the grave.
God needed one more angel child
Amidst his shining band;
And so He bent with loving smile,
And clasped our darling's hand.

No. 55-A Child

A bud the Gardener gave us,
A pure and lovely child,
He gave it to our keeping,
To cherish undefiled.
But just as it was opening
To the glory of the day,
The Heavenly Gardener claimed it
And took our bud away.

No. 56-A Child

Sleep on in thy beauty
Thou sweet angel child,
By sorrow unblighted,
By sin undefiled.
Like the dove to the ark,
Thou hast flown to thy rest,
From this wild sea of strife,
To the home of the blest.

No. 57-Father, Mother, Sister or Brother

Weep not that her toils are over,
Weep not that her race is run,
God grant we may rest as calmly
When our work, like hers, is done.
'Till then we yield with gladness,
Our Mother to Him to keep,
And rejoice in the sweet assurance,
"He giveth His loved ones sleep."

No. 58-Father, Mother, Sister or Brother

We miss thee from our home, dear mother
We miss thee from thy place;
A shadow o'er our Life is cast,
We miss thy cheerful face.
We miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care,
Our home is dark without thee-
We miss thee everywhere.

No. 59-Masonic

Here another guest we bring,
Seraph of Celestial wing,
To our fun'ral altar come;
Waft this friend and brother home.
Lord of all below-above-
Fill our souls with truth and love;
As dissolves our earthly tie,
Take us to Thy Lodge on high.

No. 60-Prayer-Male or Female

"Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord!
And let perpetual light shine on him."
                          PRAYER.
ABSOLVE, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the
soul of Thy servant, that being dead to the
world, he may live to Thee; and whatever
sins he has committed through human frailty,
do Thou, of Thy most merciful goodness
forgive; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
                                                       AMEN.
    MAY HE REST IN PEACE.  AMEN.
